About

ABOUT OUR SCHOOL

FES proudly serves Pre-Kindergarten through 5th grades and has an enrollment of approximately 500 students.  Our administration, staff, and teachers number 80 personnel. We house a Wellness Center, staffed by Choptank Community Health, in addition to our School Nurse’s Office. FES also works in association with the Judy Center, located directly across the street.

Falcon Facts: Falcons can attain velocities exceeding 200 miles per hour in stoops or dives on their prey. They are powerful and graceful in flight, with strong, deep wing beats. They maneuver with ease, grace, and evident enjoyment. Falcons are courageous, fearless, and aggressive. They will fiercely defend their nest and young against intruders. Falcons are alert, regal, and of noble tradition.

VISION & MISSION

Vision

At FES, we will actively engage in a supportive, collaborative, and rigorous learning community that nurtures and builds a foundation for lifelong success.

Mission

The mission of Federalsburg Elementary School is to ensure a nurturing and safe learning environment that is centered on students’ needs in partnership with their home and our community. Together we will build a strong foundation for college and career-level academic achievement by challenging our students academically and socially.

To achieve this mission we will live by these guiding principles:

Our students will commit to meeting high academic and social expectations by being ready, respectful, and responsible learners, taking risks, attending school every day, and treating others with respect.

Our teachers will hold students to high expectations through a rigorous and engaging curriculum including problem-based learning and hands-on, investigative inquiry. Teachers will empower students to take responsibility for their learning and will collaborate in a professional and collegial manner; to ensure that students have the strategies and tools needed to become lifelong learners. Our teachers will welcome parents and community members as partners.

Our parents are our partners in fostering the education of all of our children. We welcome families to conferences, parent nights, and school events to celebrate, learn, teach us, and give their input in this shared responsibility.

Our community is encouraged to share our vision through local business and organization sponsorship and volunteering.

Through collaboration, all members will develop a professional learning community that supports and holds each team member accountable for a positive, child-centered, rigorous learning environment at Federalsburg Elementary School.

POSITIVE BEHAVIOR & INTERVENTION SUPPORTS (PBIS)

PBIS is a system that the staff use to positively guide students’ actions. As students show good behavior, they will be able to earn positive rewards throughout the school year. This system is intended to encourage positive decision-making by the students.

As the students show good behavior, they will be able to earn positive rewards throughout the school year. This system is intended to encourage positive decision-making by the students. By following the SOAR expectations of being “Safe & Ready, Own their responsibilities, Achieve their goals, and Respect self & others,” students will be able to earn positive rewards such as “Falcon Feathers,” stickers to put on their Falcon Grids, Fantastic Falcon award, etc. They will be able to spend the Falcon Feathers once a month at the PBIS store. When students fill up their Falcon grid with their stickers they get a Positive Referral and a chance to spin the prize wheel.

All students were involved in a Passport activity the first week of school that took them through all areas of the building and the SOAR expectations that we have at each area. Therefore, all students know what behavior is expected of them as they move throughout the building. As students exhibit the expected behaviors within our building, they will receive the aforementioned rewards.

If students choose not to follow our SOAR expectations, they will receive a Minor Incident Report, which will be used to determine their individual consequences.

Federalsburg is very excited to have earned a Gold status recognition through the State for the past few years, and we look forward to working with you to make it your child’s best year yet!

FES Parent Guide to PBIS

Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is an evidence-based three-tiered framework to improve and integrate all of the data, systems, and practices affecting student outcomes every day. PBIS creates schools where all students succeed.

Tier 1

Tier 1 practices and systems establish a foundation of regular, proactive support while preventing unwanted behaviors. Schools provide these universal supports to all students, school-wide.

Tier 2

Tier 2 practices and systems support students who are at risk for developing more serious problem behaviors before those behaviors start. These supports help students develop the skills they need to benefit from core programs at the school.

Tier 3

At Tier 3, students receive more intensive, individualized support to improve their behavioral and academic outcomes. At this level, schools rely on formal assessments to determine a student’s need.

COMMUNICATION

FES communicates with families about school programs and student progress through effective and timely school-home and home-school communication:

  • The CCPS mobile app allows both the district and school communication to share important alerts and notification, such as inclement weather delays and closings. It also shares news, school menus, the district and school calendar events, and high school athletics information. It is available at no cost through the App Store or on Google Play; search: Caroline County Public Schools, MD.

  • School staff is available by phone and by email. School hours are 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

  • Monthly school newsletter; school website; FES Facebook

  • Parents are notified about their child's progress at an interim period and at the end of marking period. Parents receive student assignment scores.

  • Providing opportunities for parent/teacher conferences during which the compact is discussed as it relates to achievement.

  • Community resources are available by request to the PSP or are available in the main office.

  • Family nights are scheduled and advertised through the mobile app, website, newsletter, and social media.

  • Two-way communication through emails, phone calls, and teacher communication folders.

  • Interpreters and translators will be made available upon request.

  • Reasonable support will be provided to parents to participate in parental involvement activities upon request.

PARENT TEACHER ASSOCIATION (PTA)

The Mission of the Federalsburg Elementary PTA is threefold:

  • To support and speak on behalf of children and youth in the schools, in the community, and before government bodies and other organizations that make decisions affecting children;

  • To assist parents in developing the skills they need to raise and protect their children; and

  • To encourage parent and public involvement in the public schools of this nation.

We are currently seeking to re-establish our FES PTA.  Please contact Mrs. Alfaro, FES Principal,  if you are interested in joining or serving as an officer.
