The Chesapeake Culinary Center and the Caroline County Parks and Recreation (CCPR) / Caroline County Public Schools After School Program once again teamed up to provide students the opportunity to host the Annual Community Dinner at Federalsburg Elementary School. In addition, the Greensboro Elementary School After School Program hosted their second dinner for their families and community.
Guests enjoyed a wide variety of appetizers, dinner items, and desserts, served by fifth graders who participated in the afterschool program. Funding for the event was generously provided by the Caroline County Human Services Council and the Governor’s Office for Children. At GES, the Honey Bee Singers Glee Club, Hip Hop Hornets Dance Club and Greensboro Gem Cheerleaders provided lively entertainment. At FES entertainment was provided by the FES After School Cheer and Drumming teams, as well as Jimmy Trie Laurent on the violin.
In preparation for the dinner party, students learned how to organize and execute an event, plan a balanced and nutritional menu, send invitations, shop for local foods, set a proper table with the appropriate decorations, prepare the meal, and ultimately act as hosts and servers. During this process, students also learn about customer service and job opportunities in the hospitality field. Each student received a certificate of program completion.
Since the first FES dinner party was held in 2006, the event has become a favorite for both families and community. The events were attended by board of education members, county commissioners, school and district administration, and local and state officials and agency partners.
