Jeremiah Desire, a rising senior at Colonel Richardson High School (CRHS), recently signed a Youth Apprenticeship contract with Noah Lyden, President and CEO of Lywood Electric, located in Federalsburg’s Industrial Park.
Jeremiah recently completed the first half of the Construction Technology program with teacher Dennis Hall at the Caroline Career and Technology Center (CCTC). The apprenticeship will expand on Jeremiah’s current knowledge and provide on-the-job training in the business world.
To finalize the apprenticeship agreement, a signing ceremony was held at Lywood Electric with Jeremiah, his father Mr. Desire, Lywood Human Resources Manager Chip Williams, and CCPS Youth Apprenticeship Coordinator Eric Cook. Lywood President/CEO Noah Lyden, CRHS Principal Jared Sherman, CRHS Counselor Jennifer Reed, and Logan Dean and Jacqueline Trieu from the Department of Labor Apprenticeship Program at were also in attendance.
On behalf of the school system, Mr. Cook expressed his appreciation for the company’s continued support of the program and willingness to train and mentor students in the trade they wish to pursue. He noted this is the second Youth Apprenticeship agreement entered into by Lywood, with the first occurring in October of last year with North Caroline High School senior Brennan Pinder. Mr. Pinder graduated in June and continues employment with Lywood.
“When I interviewed Jeremiah, I asked him what his plan would be if he didn’t get the apprenticeship,” Mr. Williams said. “Without hesitation, he told me he would still become an electrician. I was impressed with his drive and focus.”
Lywood Electric, in business since 1976, is located in the Frank Adams Industrial Park in Federalsburg.
