Jack Montgomery and Ethan Raeder, both juniors at North Caroline High School (NCHS), recently signed Youth Apprenticeship agreements with Caroline County Public Schools (CCPS), one in the Technology Department and the other with Shore Gourmet.

Jack is a dual enrollment Information Technology student at Chesapeake College. Ethan completed the Food and Beverage Management Program with Chef Ogden. The apprenticeships will expand the students’ current knowledge and provide on-the-job training in the business world.

To finalize Jack’s apprenticeship agreement, a signing ceremony was held at the CCPS Board of Education in Denton with Jack, his family, and CCPS Supervisor of Technology Jason Wielgosz. This was followed by a signing with Ethan, his family, and Shore Gourmet Manager Jennifer Sipala to finalize his agreement.

Also in attendance were district and school representatives Board of Education Member Chrissy Bartz, Superintendent Dr. Derek Simmons, Coordinator of Career Readiness Eric Cook, Director of College and Career Readiness Lindsey McCormick, CCTC Chef Larry Ogden, CCTC Principal Courtney Handte, and NCHS Principal Matt Spiker. In addition, Jacqueline Trieu from the Maryland Department of Labor, Pamela Clay from the Maryland State Department of Education, Robert Zimberoff with Caroline Economic Development, and Stacy Gardner with Shore Strategies/Collective Impact were there to show their support.

Dr. Simmons said that CCPS believes strongly in the program, and signing on students to CCPS apprenticeships is proof of that commitment. He also thanked the parents for instilling an excellent work ethic in their children which was evident during the interview process for each of them.
