Dr. Yolanda Holloway, principal of Colonel Richardson Middle School, was recently appointed to the Maryland Juvenile Services Education Program (JSEP) Board. Governor Wes Moore appointed Dr. Holloway to the position, and her appointment was confirmed during a hearing by the Maryland Executive Nominations Committee.
“Every student deserves access to quality learning opportunities,” Dr. Holloway said, “I’m committed to ensuring that ‘all’ truly means all.”
Superintendent Dr. Derek Simmons said, “Gov. Moore could not have chosen a better advocate than Dr. Holloway for the educational needs of students in the care of the Department of Juvenile Services.”
The Juvenile Services Education Program (JSEP) and Board is an independent unit within the Maryland Department of Juvenile Services (DJS) to oversee and provide comprehensive educational services to all juveniles placed in a DJS operated detention and residential facility. The JSEP Superintendent is responsible for implementing and administering educational programs approved by the JSEP Board and DJS provides support services to the unit.
The JSEP Board is comprised of 11 members; the Governor appoints five of those members with the advice and consent of the Senate. Appointed Board members are required to meet monthly and serve four-year terms.
