Savannah Messick, a Colonel Richardson High School (CRHS) junior, recently signed a Youth Apprenticeship contract with Michelle Moaney, Director of Every Voice Counts in Easton, Maryland. Savannah will be a Dual Enrollment student taking psychology courses at Chesapeake College.
To finalize the apprenticeship agreement, a signing ceremony was held at the Every Voice Counts office with Ms. Messick, her family, Ms. Moaney, Jo Ann Asparagus, Attorney, Jennifer Hardin, RN, MSW, LCSW-C Rehabilitation Specialist, and Latonya Potter, Administrative Assistant. Also in attendance were district and school representatives Coordinator of Career Readiness Eric Cook, CRHS Principal Jared Sherman, CRHS Counselor Leslie Podlaszewski and CRHS Computer Science teacher Amber Knoepfel. Ms Knoepfel connected Savannah to the Apprenticeship opportunity after she expressed interest in the field during a Financial Literacy assignment.
In addition, Jacqueline Trieu from the Maryland Department of Labor, and Pam Clay from the Maryland State Department of Education were in attendance to show their support.
CCPS Coordinator Eric Cook shared that in general, high school students interested in Psychology or Social Work are limited to elective courses or dual enrollment. “I am grateful to Every Voice Counts for providing Savannah the opportunity to gain experience in the field and get a clearer picture of the profession.”
