Dear Caroline Family,
As many of you are aware, today we had power outages at Greensboro Elementary, Colonel Middle and Colonel High Schools which were the result of an accident at a substation in Denton. We had generators to keep the extreme cold at bay in specific areas of each campus. Because power outages were widespread in the communities, we didn’t want to close buildings and send kids home to cold houses. As a result, students were gathered in areas of the building where heat was accessible.
I am grateful to our staff who stayed laser focused on keeping our kids safe, warm, and fed. It took an amazing number of people to accomplish this mission and as always, the Caroline family showed up.
To our families at GES, CRMS and CRHS, thank you for your patience today. To all families, I want to stress that we have specific communication channels to keep you informed. The district's first priority in any situation is to make sure students and staff are safe. The second priority is to gather facts and then share verified information with families. At that point, we communicate through email, text, notifications, websites, apps and social media.
Quite often, information shared through individual or community Facebook pages is inaccurate. Trying to correct misinformation can lead to our attention being diverted. The best way to verify information is to check any one of our communication channels. We ask that you please help us to limit the spread of misinformation and be patient as we work to communicate in as timely a manner as possible with our families.
Thank you for your support and cooperation.
Derek L. Simmons, Superintendent
