Maryland Governor Wes Moore recently appointed board member Mark R. Jones to a second term on the Caroline County Board of Education. Mr. Jones was initially appointed in 2020 to complete a four year term that ended in 2024.

After Mr. Jones was sworn in by Caroline Clerk of the Court Terry Lord at the June Board meeting, he reflected that his reappointment was a symbol of the work that’s been done in the past four years by everyone at Caroline County Public Schools. “It’s because of the work that happens in the buildings that I’m going to serve another four years, so thanks to everyone … for making good things happen.” President Wayman said they were all glad to have Mr. Jones on board.

Mr. Jones is a lifelong resident of Caroline County, and the business owner of a grain farming operation that spans Caroline, Talbot, and Kent Counties. He is a 1996 graduate of North Caroline High School and holds an associate degree in Poultry Science from Delaware Technical & Community College. Mr. Jones resides in Denton with his wife and three children, all of whom attend Caroline County Public Schools.

The role of the board is to provide leadership and oversight for the Caroline County Public Schools by setting goals, establishing policies, and committing resources to benefit students. The Board is comprised of three elected members (one from each district), two members appointed by the governor, and two non-voting student members (one from each high school). Each member serves for a term of four years, and appointed members are eligible for two four year terms. Student members serve for a term of one year. The superintendent of schools serves as secretary-treasurer of the Board.
