North Caroline High School student Liam Wallace has been named one of Maryland’s Emerging Scholars for the Maryland Business Roundtable (MBRT).
At the June board of education meeting, Director of College and Career Readiness Lindsey McCormick explained that Maryland's Emerging Scholars recognizes and honors exceptional young individuals who are making significant contributions to their communities, schools, and their futures. Out of nearly 300 applicants, 24 students are selected as their district's award recipient. These students are nominated by teachers, community members, and mentors for excelling in all they do.
Ms. McCormick shared that Liam is a busy 10th grader with a grade point average of over 4.0, and he already 100+ hours of community service. He is a member of the marching band, the jazz and concert bands, the Student Government Association and several other clubs. Liam aspires to be a US foreign diplomat with a primary focus on global peace and advocating for human rights.
As an Emerging Scholar, Liam already had the opportunity to spend a day in Annapolis with other recipients. In addition to attending state house sessions, he presented a STEM advocacy project that showed the importance of STEM in the real world.
Abigail Trice, Next Generation Scholars Coordinator in Caroline for Maryland Business Roundtable for Education, attended the board meeting. “This is the inaugural year for the Emerging Scholars Program,” she explained, “and Caroline could not have a better representative than Liam.” She added that he also serves as a Student Ambassador for Caroline with MBRT.
