At the May meeting, the Caroline County Board of Education appointed Erica McDonald Supervisor of Special Education.

 

Ms. McDonald began her teaching career in 2011. She came to Caroline in 2020 as a Special Education teacher at Denton Elementary, followed by a move to Early Childhood Specialist in 2021. In 2022 Ms. McDonald became a Special Education coordinator and in December of 2023, she was appointed Interim Supervisor of Special Education.

 

Supervisor of Instruction Dr. Tara Downes shared with the Board that as the interim supervisor, Ms. McDonald has been collaborating with the instructional team, the Multilingual Learners team, and the Special Education team on interventions that provide  integrated support to students. “She is a team player with great ideas,” Dr. Downes said. Dr. Simmons added that Ms. McDonald has done an excellent job in a short amount of time.

 

Ms. McDonald graduated Summa Cum Laude from High Point University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Special Education. She also holds a Master of Arts in Leadership in Teaching: Special Education Exceptionalities.
